Fires at Coastways

Recent widespread fires have directly impacted the ranch. Special Thanks to Andy, who stayed up for three days straight fixing water lines, clearing roads, putting out spot-fires, moving combustibles, hauling hoses, and helping CalFire to keep us from burning to the ground.  Stephanie, Tim, Jon, Alan, Tom, Ian, Brian Fogg, George Cattermole, and a host of others have also been indispensable in the fight, including CalFire and all of our local fire departments.  Our most heartfelt thanks go out to all who have assisted us in this time of need, including Sophie and Helena Beckett who made the trip to deliver food and supplies. - Thank You -

The focus has shifted from direct firefighting to fire recovery at this point. If you live locally and are in position to help, let us know by emailing us at CoastwaysFamily@gmail.com. If you live further away and wish to donate directly to the recovery effort let us know as well. Every little bit helps! Thank you for your support during this terrifying time. Our hearts go out to our close neighbors who have lost everything, and to our entire community which has been directly impacted as well. It has been a horrific fire covering over 86,000 acres throughout San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties.

Below is a slideshow of updates and photos taken on or near the ranch during the tail end of the lightning storm (which started Sunday, August 16th), throughout the duration of the subsequent fires, and during the ongoing recovery efforts

Michael Olson (author of the book MetroFarm and executive producer and host of the syndicated Saturday Food Chain Radio show) invited us back on KSCO's Good Morning Monterey Bay Ag Report to talk about the recent fires and share about our organic agricultural land listing. If you're interested in listening to his interview with our very own Hank Bradley you can find it on our Updates page.

Coastways Ranch Fire Dept T-Shirts

Skye has worked hard designing this sweet logo and having t-shirts made as a token of appreciation for the heroic efforts of Coastways family and friends fighting the fires and keeping all structures on the ranch safe and sound.

If you are interested in purchasing a T-shirt as a memento of these crazy times, or donating to the fund to provide free T-shirts to all those on the front lines at the ranch, you can do so here:

Thanks for your support and for all of you who have helped us during these difficult times.
